LOCH LOMOND FLOATING SAUNA
The Floating Sauna at Loch Lomond Shores. Enjoy panoramic views and authentic wood-fired heat. A unique wellness experience which is open from November 2026 and available now for group bookings.
Loch Lomond Wild Sauna is a new sauna and wellness concept and will open in November 2026.
Loch Lomond Wild Sauna is created by the team at Loch Lomond Leisure and we plan to launch two saunas, The Floating Sauna, and The Trailer Sauna.
We are opening soon, please visit the booking page for opening times, availability, and to make a booking.
The Floating Sauna is located at The Beach Head, at Loch Lomond Shores, Ben Lomond Way, Alexandria, G83 8QL.
The Beach Head is a 5-minute walk from the visitor car park at Loch Lomond Shores, and 10-minutes from Balloch Train Station, or Bus Station.
The floating sauna concept is popular in Nordic cities such as Oslo. We believe that The Floating Sauna at Loch Lomond Shores is a unique offering, and the first of its type in Scotland.
The floating sauna is built onto an oversized dock and moored about 20m from shore. A floating walkway leads out to the dock, and the view looks north from Loch Lomond Shores to reveal sight of Inchmurrin Island, Ben Lomond, and the surrounding hills.
The floating sauna is woodfired, with seating for up to 12 persons, and features a large panoramic glass window to enjoy the view.
The floating sauna adjoins to ‘The Wellness Deck’, a decked area, partially covered, with a safety handrail, and seating.
When joining an open “social” sauna session, this decked area is available to rest and cool down, with deck chairs and bean bags provided.
When booking a private sauna session, the exclusive use of the deck is included for no extra fee and available to use for approved activities such as Yoga, Pilates, Meditation, Breathwork, and more.
The contrast between hot and cold is, for many, an essential part of the sauna ritual but we do stress that taking the plunge into cold water is optional and it is important to recognise and accept the risk of cold-water shock. Please read the booking terms and consent waiver for further information.
For swimmers, the water depth around the floating sauna varies from 1.4m to 2.0m (approximately) and swim ladders are attached to the dock.
Also, an alternative to swimming it is possible to paddle in the shallow water next to the beach.
Sauna sessions last for 50 minutes and commence on the hour.
We offer a number of group activities for Stag Parties including The Speedboat Pub Tour and The Highland Games. Why not consider an early morning Sauna Session and Cold Plunge on the final day of your Stag Weekend. The perfect hangover cure.
We plan to host regular sauna and wellness events.
Also, we are open to enquiries for private use events, and collaborations. Please do get in touch via the enquiry form or email.
Changing facilities are available but basic. A trailer parked on the beach has been converted to provide 4 cubicles.
Bag storage is available with a box provided next to the changing trailer, and also on the deck next to the sauna.
Toilets are available at The Loch Lomond Shores building daily from 10:00 to 17:00. There are no toilets available outside of these times.
Please read the FAQs page for further information.
The ticket trailer, next to the changing trailer, operates as a basic shop.
At the shop it is possible to rent or buy a towel, and dry robes are available to rent.
Other items for sale include swim shorts, sauna hats, aqua shoes, dry bags, waterproof phone case, etc.
Also, we offer a basic selection of cold snacks and drinks for sale.
The Balcony Café at Loch Lomond Shores is open from 10:00 to 16:00 (winter opening).
The Balcony Café is located on the first floor, and The Floating Sauna is visible from the balcony viewpoint making it an ideal venue for waiting friends and family, spectators, or to rendezvous before and after your sauna session.
The Balcony Café is operated by Loch Lomond Leisure, and to thank our sauna customers we offer a 20% discount voucher to use at The Balcony Café on the day of your visit.
